Learning from the Frontlines: Our Visit to Simon Community Scotland’s Outreach Teams in Glasgow

On Friday, 9th May, our Outreach team flew to Glasgow to meet with Simon Community Scotland’s Glasgow Street Outreach Team. While there, we also met their Access Hub team and Street Cycle Outreach Team, and had the opportunity to tour their facilities.

We joined the Street Outreach Team on foot and met many of the people they support. We were deeply impressed by the breadth and quality of the services they provide. The staff are incredibly passionate and resilient, and the professional, trusting relationships they’ve built with those they support were truly inspiring. We are so grateful for their warm hospitality.

One of our support workers reflected on the experience, saying: "It was extremely eye-opening to see what teams across the water do to assist with street homelessness. Gaining insight into their practices—particularly how they engage with individuals, build trust, and deliver person-centred support—gave us a lot to think about. There’s so much we can learn from their approach."

Hugh Hill, Director of Services and Development at Simon Community Scotland, generously took the time to discuss their approach with us. He openly shared insights into their successes and challenges, highlighting the importance of innovation in addressing homelessness.

A huge thank you to the entire team for hosting us—we hope to return the favour in the future!
