The Cold Reality: The Welcome Organisation Launches Winter Campaign

This winter, The Welcome Organisation is calling on the people of Belfast to look beyond the stereotypes, understand the realities of homelessness and help make a difference to those who need it most.

As temperatures drop and the colder months set in, the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness become even more difficult. But homelessness is about much more than sleeping rough. It's the uncertainty of not knowing where you'll sleep, the fear of having nowhere safe to go and the daily struggle of living without the security of a place to call home.

This is The Cold Reality of homelessness in Belfast.

Today, we're launching our Winter Campaign, The Cold Reality, an initiative designed to raise awareness, inspire generosity and demonstrate the difference we can make when communities come together.

Over the coming months, our campaign will focus on three key themes: Understand, Act and Impact.

UNDERSTAND

Homelessness doesn't have one face, one story or one cause.

While rough sleeping is often the most visible form of homelessness, many people experiencing housing insecurity remain unseen. From those staying in temporary accommodation to individuals and families facing the threat of losing their homes, the reality is far more complex than many realise.

Throughout our campaign, we'll be sharing statistics, challenging common misconceptions and highlighting the experiences of people accessing our services across Belfast.

We want to encourage our community to look beyond what they see and recognise the people, circumstances and stories behind homelessness.

Because behind every statistic is a person, and no one's journey starts here.

ACT

Understanding homelessness is important, but awareness alone isn't enough.

This winter, we're inviting individuals, families, businesses and community groups across Belfast to turn compassion into action by supporting our winter appeal.

One of the ways you can get involved is by purchasing a winter

essentials parcel for someone accessing The Welcome Organisation's services.

These parcels will help provide practical essentials, including warm clothing, hygiene products and other everyday necessities, offering comfort, dignity and support during what can be an incredibly difficult time of year.

Whether you choose to purchase a parcel, make a donation, organise a workplace collection or share our campaign, your support can make a meaningful difference.

A small act of generosity can mean so much to someone facing the cold reality of homelessness.

IMPACT

Every donation, every parcel and every act of kindness contributes to the support we provide to people experiencing homelessness.

Throughout the campaign, we'll be highlighting the work taking place across our services, sharing the impact of your generosity and showing how community support helps us respond to the needs of people across Belfast.

From our Assertive Street Outreach Team supporting people sleeping rough to our accommodation and support services helping individuals move towards greater stability, our work extends far beyond meeting immediate needs.

It's about dignity, safety, opportunity and ensuring people have access to the support they deserve.

And none of this happens in isolation. It takes the commitment of our staff, volunteers, partners and the generosity of the wider community.

BELFAST, BE PART OF CHANGING THE REALITY

Homelessness is happening here, in our city, and tackling it requires more than awareness alone.

It requires understanding, compassion, practical support and a community willing to take action.

This winter, we're asking Belfast to come together and help us make a difference.

Purchase a winter essentials parcel. Make a donation. Get your workplace involved. Share our message.

However you choose to support The Cold Reality, you can help us provide essential support to people experiencing homelessness when they need it most.

Don't just see the reality. Be part of changing it.
